Apomayta Gallery

Apomayta, an Incan Indian, began his art studies at The Carlos Baca Flor Regional School of Fine Arts, Arequipa, Peru, in 1982. There he not only learned art but the traditions and culture of the art of Peru from ancient to modern times. He was honored to be mentored by such masters of art as Luis Palao, Teodoro Nunez, and Jose Cevallos. Through their patient training Apomayta was challenged to not only pursue his Incan heritage but also pursue his racial roots that as told by tribal custom reach as far as China over 5000 years ago.

Apomayta was awarded a scholarship to live and study in China at the renowned Central Institute of Fine Arts in Beijing under the tutelage of the Chinese masters such as Li Keren, Lian Zonian, Zhang Ping, Guo Yizhou, Qi Hongzhun and Jiao Youfu, Mr. Apomayta has mastered ancient Chinese art of various dynasties and modern Chinese art techniques and styles, while at the same time blending them naturally with other art styles and mediums from his heritage. He has been honored by his mentors and the Chinese people for his accomplishments and his demonstrated love and respect for Chinese Art, culture and language.


With influences from around the globe and to complete the circle of Apomayta’s quest for a model of art expression, Apomayta pursued his advanced art studies at the distinguished Autonomous National University of Mexico in Mexico City, under the guidance of master of art such as Casimero Carmona, Jorge Choe, and Leo Acosta. The experience elevated his ability to blend many different cultural influences into his paintings. His admirers say he has done this in a way so complementary to each culture that the compilation is seamless, even in the creation of large-scale frescos he mastered while in Mexico. In a country famous for timeless murals, it is no small achievement that Apomayta has been honored again and again by the Mexican people for his skill as a muralist.
